THE STRESS SOLUTION:
Shifting stress mindsets at The Life Center Northwest to optimize performance and deepen purpose
Absenteeism, turnover, disengaged employees, diminished productivity, increased medical costs, and increased legal costs, puts the economic impact of stress at around $300 billion for US employers (an average of $702 per employee per year.)! The trouble is, we are treating stress like a disease to be rid of. We take vacations, go on wellness retreats, and engage in stress management programs to try to rid ourselves of stress – but having zero stress is a dead person’s goal. Stress will surround us all the days of our lives - especially in the often traumatic work of organ donation. Research has found that the goal to avoid stress increased the long-term risk of outcomes like depression, divorce and getting fired! Rather than the exhausting, fearful approach of fighting stress, what would happen if we could lean into and transform our stress into a competitive advantage?
Stress isn’t inherently bad. In fact, the highest-performing athletes and leaders have learned the secrets to the upside of stress, using it to fuel their performance rather than hinder it.
The result of this stress mindset shift? Increased performance and productivity, greater connection with others, and enhanced ability to learn and grow from challenges. Fueled by stress, a company becomes fear(less), resilient, and capable of thriving through change, with everyone 3x more likely to be focused and accomplishing more in less time, 2x less likely to make mistakes and miscommunicate, and more than 1.5x less likely to consider leaving the organization.
Audiences will leave with tools that enable them to:
- Understand the root of our stress response and recalibrate it to work with us in the modern world.
- Engage with our fears to reframe them as energy that can optimize performance.
- Adopt a simple framework for rewiring our brains to respond differently to threats as challenges, to reduce burnout and restore purpose and fulfilment to our work.
What others are saying about Dr. Rebecca:
Tina Stevens, Secondary Solutions Executive Conference
“Rebecca blew the doors off!! When she was speaking you could hear the air vents. I have never had that experience before. I looked around and saw tears, mouths hanging open, and total inspiration on people's faces!”
Carol Wittlieb-Weber, MD, Children's Hospital of Philadephia
Energetic and empowering! We were fortunate to have Dr. Rebecca Heiss as our keynote speaker for National Women Physician’s Day and we are still talking about our experience and using the practical tools that she gave us to help conquer our fears. Her talk was a lot of fun but also very informative and relatable. Her ability to form such a strong connection with our large group in a virtual setting (given the pandemic) speaks to her engaging personality and passion for sharing her fear(less) mindset.’
Elif Somay, VISA
"Rebecca's expertise, approachability, and vulnerability allowed us to craft an event that was beyond my hopes for what we could achieve. The outpouring of feedback from her session is truly profound and the positive impact Rebecca made will impact our global leaders for years to come."

“Rebecca was awesome! Her talk was the highlight of the week; I’ve heard this from several people today. I like to wait a few days to see how I (and others) digest new material…it is simple exuberance that wears off after a couple days or is it sticky…Rebecca’s material has been sticky!

Sandeep Ramchandani,
Radix Technologies
"Dr Heiss was awesome. She developed a small legion of fans here via her infectious energy even virtually. The (often reserved) engineering team really loved her actionable insights and even after a grueling day, she managed to get us engrossed, entertained and enriched."
Susan Shingledecker, Earth Science Information Partners - ESIP
"Rebecca was terrific! Our community really enjoyed her remarks both at the time (and I’m happy to update that a month later, Rebecca’s takeaways continue to change the entire conversation for our teams around how we handle stress and change and the language we use to address both!). I really appreciate how she engaged the crowd, even through the virtual platform and her customization.  Her energy and commitment really shone through not just at the event but after as she continued to engage with our community and follow up to answer questions they had during a post-event Q&A.  I cannot recommend Rebecca highly enough!"
Amanda McBee,
COO, Consolidated Assurance
“Rebecca's keynote was dynamic, thought-provoking and action inspiring. It resonated with me and our team in such positive ways, causing us to really look at the blindspots and specific ways to create behavior change in both our lives and businesses. We received more positive feedback from her talk and requests for a copy of her talk than any of the other speakers.”
Sarah Wirth,
President of Ecsell Institute
“Rebecca was a phenomenal speaker for our leadership conference. We had leaders from a wide variety of industries and positions in attendance, and she created a lasting impact on all of them with her humor, intelligence and practical insights. While the information she shared about stress was rooted in science, she never made it boring or stuffy. She made us all laugh constantly and engaged the audience through her interactive exercises. Most importantly, we all walked away with some simple, practical tips we could use to handle stress more effectively. We’ve had dozens and dozens of speakers present at our conference over the years and Rebecca was easily one of my top five favorite speakers we’ve ever had. I recommend her wholeheartedly.”
